Revolutionizing Digital Twin Creation: EON Universal Transforms P&IDs Into 3D Models with Precision

EON Universal cuts 3D model creation time by 95%, enhancing industrial operational readiness

IRVINE, CA – September 15, 2026 – EON AI Ventures, a leader in AI-powered enterprise transformation, announces a major advancement in EON Universal: the automatic conversion of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) into operational 3D facility models. By overcoming the prohibitive costs and inefficiencies of traditional conversion methods, this capability provides industries with a faster, more accurate, and reliable path to adopting digital twin technology.

Solving the Digital Twin Adoption Crisis
Asset-intensive industries have wanted digital twins for years, but the path from 2D engineering documents to a working 3D model has been slow, expensive, and error-prone. Conventional approaches demand weeks or even months of specialized modeling and scanning, drive costs up, and still risk inaccuracies from manual interpretation — the very errors that render a twin unusable for maintenance training or safety drills. The outcome has been a technology of enormous promise that most facilities simply could not justify adopting.

EON Universal removes that barrier. In a recent benchmark on a four-sheet P&ID, the system identified 137 parts and converted 133 pipe connections into a validated, operational model — cutting 3D model creation time by up to 95%, at a machine-reading compute cost of less than five cents. Work that once took specialist teams weeks now takes a fraction of the time and cost — without sacrificing the accuracy that high-stakes operations demand.

The Challenge
The core challenge in the digital twin landscape is enabling a reliable transition from 2D documents to interactive 3D models — without exorbitant cost or error. Traditional methods rely on weeks of specialized input to convert P&IDs and facility images into usable twins, and they remain prone to the misinterpretation and misplacement of components that can quietly compromise a model’s value for operations. Precision is not optional: for maintenance, training, and safety, a twin has to be right, not merely close.

“For years we have watched industrial teams struggle to turn their engineering documentation into something they can operate against. The intelligence was always locked inside P&IDs and field photographs — EON Universal finally unlocks it. By treating the P&ID as the blueprint and real-world imagery as the spatial guide, we can stand up an accurate, operational digital twin in a fraction of the time and cost that conventional methods demand: identifying every part, validating every connection, and doing it for pennies of compute rather than weeks of specialist labor,’ stated Mats W. Johansson, CEO, EON AI Ventures.

EON Universal—A New Era in Digital Twin Technology
EON Universal emerges as the cutting-edge solution to these longstanding challenges, leveraging P&IDs combined with field photographs to automate the creation of highly precise and operational digital twins. By considering P&IDs as the central blueprint and field photographs as the spatial guide, EON Universal transcends traditional barriers, enabling a seamless, cost-effective, and time-efficient digital twin generation process.

Key Capabilities
EON Universal’s capabilities are built on leveraging dual-layered information comprising Identity and Topology. The system efficiently automates the extraction of connection claims, validating each as part of a comprehensive and auditable process, ensuring every connection is accurate and reliable.

Key Features

  • P&ID intelligence – identity and topology. The system detects equipment, instruments and engineering tags, then traces drawing lines into a proposed connectivity graph. The P&ID determines what should be connected; the software does not invent process logic from appearance alone.
  • Connection claims with an audit trial. Each extracted connection is treated as a claim to be matched to 3D components and verified. The output reports recognized tags, proposed connections, unmatched items, placeholders and partial reads instead of silently discarding uncertainty.
  • Geometry-aware component and pipe assembly. Recognized, dimensioned components from EON’s Living Library provide equipment form, scale and defined ports or nozzles. Piping is generated from the P&ID-derived topology and joined at those connection points, reducing the risk of improvised ‘spaghetti’ routing.
  • Two-source fusion and visual validation. Engineering tags join the drawing to the photographic evidence. Photographs establish spatial arrangement, while reverse comparisons against source images helps validate placement and preserve confidence value for inferred information.
  • The Universal Twin Ladder. Twin Sketch creates a tagged, connected and explicitly illustrative twin from the P&ID. Twin Forge adds representative, connection-aware library components for richer visualization and class-level training. Twin Mirror adds field geometry and human-confirmed connections to create the Twin of Record intended for field applications and eventual CMMS integration.

One framework, three tiers of increasing fidelity

TIER WHAT IT IS WHAT IT DELIVERS
Twin Sketch A rapid schematic model generated straight from P&ID data. Quick assessments and initial facility layouts in minutes.
Twin Forge Fuses P&ID logic with field photographs to build the working 3D model. A spatially accurate operational model, ready for review.
Twin Mirror Integrates every data source with human-confirmed connections. The definitive operational twin — full accuracy and functionality.

  • Transparency by design. Every twin is intended to display its maturity level and distinguish measured, photographed, inferred and unresolved information. A schematic twin cannot be presented as survey-grade, and a placeholder cannot be mistaken for verified equipment.

EON Universal is designed for smooth integration with existing industrial processes. Deployment is phased to accommodate progressive model accuracy and operational needs, rapidly scaling from initial data input to full operational deployment within reduced timeframes.

“What excites me most is what makes this possible. When a digital twin is fast enough, affordable enough, and accurate enough to trust, it stops being a showcase project and becomes everyday infrastructure — for maintenance, for training, for safety, and for the decisions operators make on every shift. Generic AI can get you to eighty percent; high-stakes operations need one hundred. EON Universal is built for that last, critical margin, and it puts reliable digital twins within reach of every facility — not just the few that could once afford them,” Mr. Johansson added.
